Calgary has few homegrown associations that can claim to be over one hundred years old.  The Calgary Sketch Club is one. Surprised?

Its origins are traceable back to 1909 when six Calgary citizens formed a club to sketch, paint together and exhibit their works. The infant organization has survived and grown through two world wars and several name changes to the club it is today an association of nearly one hundred enthusiastic artists who are eagerly following their dream of artistic excellence.

The Calgary Sketch Club offers prospective new members the opportunity to enjoy the

camaraderie of these artists as you join them in their pursuit of artistic growth and knowledge of art.

To further this growth, the club offers weekly workshops as well as Spring and Fall weeklong outdoor painting camps. The workshops are conducted by our more experienced members and also by invited, well-known artists; the workshops include demos in various mediums, critiques of paintings and information sessions. The painting camps provide the opportunity for "plein air" painting in scenic locations in Alberta and BC.

As well, several exhibitions and sales of members' work are held each year by the club.

The Calgary Sketch Club is supported by the Alberta Foundation for Art
